The work of HBC Chikuni would
be impossible without the great support of people from the community.
Besides the staff, which consists of five employees, approximately
150 people are helping voluntarily, investing a lot of time in
our services and projects.
Once the clients are tested positive
they are offered to join the Home Based Care program and one of the PLWHAs (People
Living with HIV and AIDS) Clubs, which meet weekly to share their experiences,
offer each other support and cooperate in HBC projects.
There are now 32 clubs in the Chikuni area divided into 3 zones: northern, central
and southern.
The HBC team visits each club once a month (See Outreach Visits) to distribute
medication for the opportunistic infections and offer VCT to anyone in the community
who might want it.
The core of HBC work are the Community
Care Givers at the moment 122), people who care for often bed ridden
HIV infected clients in their homes.
So as to monitor his conditions and offer him support, each patient is visited
twice a week by a Community Care Giver, who is trained about
all important issues concerning HIV/AIDS in regular workshops.
